The GB Cup for projected images has been described as ‘probably the biggest inter-club competition in the World.’ In 2017 the judging moved, for the first time, from Dumfries to Yorkshire.
One hundred and ten clubs entered the Nature Section which was won, by a sizeable margin, by Rolls Royce Derby PS. Dumfries was placed 5th equal with Bronze Medals awarded to Mick Durham (Best Action - Predator and Prey) and Gordon Rae (Best Mammals - Watching Mum.)
Gordon’s combined score for his three outstanding images won him the prestigious ‘PAGB Nature Photographer of the Year’ award and a PAGB Gold Medal. The award was shared with Gianpiero Ferrari from the winning club.
The Open Section was more closely fought, with Arden PG finishing two points above Dumfries. Although the GB Cup is a club competition, the judges make some awards to individual PDI - these included a Bronze Medal for the Best Travel Image - ‘Slow Day’ by Maybeth Jamieson.
Results and winning images can be seen in PAGB e-News 179 Extra.
